THE ROCK CYCLE
Igneous Rocks
This picture shows the Igneous rocks.
Igneous rocks have different textures depending on how fast or slow they cooled. If the cool rapidly then the rock will be fine-grained if the igneous rocks cool slowly the rock will be coarse grained. The igneous rocks in the past were used to make tools and building material. Igneous are also called fire rocks they can form underground or above ground.
Sedimentary Rocks
This is a picture of a few different kinds of sedimentary rocks. There are three different groups of sedimentary rocks, those three major groups are clastic rocks, organic rocks, chemical rocks. For example shale, sandstone and limestone are three rocks that are in the three major groups. Shale is one of the common clastic rocks. Sandstone also falls under the clastic rock category. Finally Limestone falls under the category of chemical rock. The definitions of the three major groups are first -clastic rocks is sedimentary rock that will form when the rock fragments are squeezed together under high pressure. Second -chemical rocks is sedimentary rock that will form when minerals crystallize from a solution. Finally -Organic rock is sedimentary rock that will form where the remains of organisms are deposited in thick layers.
Metamorphic Rocks
This is a picture of 5 different metamorphic rocks. Metamorphic rocks form from the heat and pressure beneath the earths surface. The definition of metamorphic and foliated is -Metamorphic rock is a type of rock that will form when an existing rock that will change by the heat, pressure or chemicals reactions. Foliated-Term used to describe metamorphic rocks whose grains are arranged in parallel layers or bands.
This is a picture of a metamorphic rock. This rock is also called marble. In this photo you can see how it shines from different minerals that are in it. In the marble you can see how some parts shine more than others. That's because of the different types of minerals. As you can see there is some quartz in it.
Fine and Coarse grained rocks
This picture show two rocks with two different textures. Those two different types of texture are fine and coarse grained rocks. For example Granite is a perfect example of of fine and coarse grained textures. When you look at a Granite rock you can see how big or small the crystals are. But in Granite it has a coarse grained texture to it.
